I watched the Oscars and I was pretty bored as usual. There were a few interesting moments though. There was some kinda Kanye West commotion between two producers. One of the winners came up to say thanks, and the woman he shared the award with (whose name came second on the award), interrupted him claiming sexism. It was weird, rude, and strange, however I didn’t see any racial slurs about her on twitter (like what happened to Kanye), for doing it.

Monique was dignified, gracious and poised. She made a comment about not playing the politics of the Oscars, and a bunch of people thought she was talking about race. The fact is that Academy award nominees lobby in many different ways to get the award. They throw parties, luncheons, take out ads in Variety Magazines, and do all sort of creative things to get the votes of Academy members. Monique didn’t want to do that. She wanted to win based on her performance, as many of us naively believe it is. Well, she did! Kudos for her for not playing the game. We have too much of that going in Washington. That’s why we can’t get any bills passed successfully.

Anyway Congrats to Monique, and the first African American Screenplay writer, and the first woman director and all the rest of the winners!!!

I didn’t watch them. I’m pretty much oblivious to the world of mainstream film and television, so I’d be all,”who’s that?” Thanks for the recap!

Thanks for the recap. I didn’t watch either (Snooze City), but I did read about it via Twitter, and I think Monique definitely deserved that award. I’m happy to hear that she chose to forgo the politrix of it all, and still came out victorious. That is another feather in her cap, in my book! How come Sapphire didn’t get a nod about her book during the Oscars? I didn’t see anyone mentioning her on Twitter either. As a writer, I find that incredibly offensive and odd.

Sapphire was there in back yelling her head off when the Guy who wrote the screenplay won! She was so excited! It was incredible. He was so overwhelmed he forgot to thank her, but Oprah let him do a “do-over” on her show, and he thanked Sapphire.
Kudos to Monique and all of the winners! I just thought the screenwriter was so charming in his acceptance. Loved him
